BUCHANAN, WI (Tuesday, August 05, 2008) – Steve Carlson followed up his ASAMT win at Hawkeye Downs by collecting his sixth SCAG Power Equipment Dixieland 150 at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI. Carlson won by 2.616 seconds over Kyle Calmes in front of over 5,100 fans.

“What a really almost perfect race car, I have to thank this one to my crew,” a happy Carlson stated in victory lane. “I have a well balanced crew. One guy wants to change a lot of things and another won’t let me change anything and it just balances out so well.”

Carlson stated that he never had a car near this perfect before at WIR, “This baby was right on tonight.”

Carlson took the lead from Jonathan Eilen on lap 79 after he made an inside pass from early leader Jonathan Eilen. But, Carlson didn’t have an easy drive as he held off Freedom, WI pilot Calmes who was competing on his home track. But with 25 laps to go, Carlson would pull away from Calmes and take home the win.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (Friday, July 18, 2008) – Steve Carlson’s domination at Hawkeye Downs Speedway continued on Friday night as he took home his fifth Keith Fleck Miller 100 at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, IA. It was Carlson’s second win in the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment.

“I had a very good car, very good car,” Carlson stated in victory lane. “I just run well here and I have a lot of fun here.”

Carlson started seventh and charged to the front within the first 40 laps of the event. He showed how strong his car was when he was able to pass both Donny Reuvers for third and Dan Fredrickson for second on the outside.

Mark Kraus was the early leader in the race that many thought may not happen as rain was approaching the ½ mile oval all day, but only one small shower caused a delay in qualifying.

*LAS VEGAS** (Nov. 9, 2007) *– Steve Carlson leaned back against the seat and exhaled.

"Man, I feel like I just finished a 300-lap race," Carlson said.

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series champion spent Friday morning at Nellis Air Force Base as a guest of the U.S. Air Force. Carlson was treated to a ride in an F-16 that is part of the Air Force's world-famous Thunderbirds.

"Overall, it was about the most awesome thing I've ever done," Carlson said. "If anybody gets a chance to fly in that Thunderbird jet, they better take it. It's a pretty cool deal."

The 50-year-old Carlson will be honored Saturday night at the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship banquet for his 2007 title run.

But nothing he ever experienced on the track prepared him for the ride of a lifetime in a Thunderbird.

The Thunderbirds were practicing Friday for their final exhibition weekend of the season.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — (Oct. 3, 2007) Steve Carlson was pretty sure that he was in good shape. After all, he had been tracking the standings for the past several weeks. But it wasn’t until he got the call Wednesday afternoon from George Silbermann, NASCAR’s managing director of racing operations, that it became a reality.

Carlson is the 2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series champion. “It’s a relief,” Carlson said. “This is so big, this is unreal. I’m sure it will be a while until it all sinks in on just how big this really is.”

For starters, Carlson joins an elite class of racers who have won the national championship for NASCAR’s short track program – besting a field of thousands of racers competing at various tracks across the country. He earned his ticket to the New York City, where NASCAR will honor its champions, and to Las Vegas, where he will be in the spotlight for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banquet.

The 50-year-old from Black River Falls, Wisc. native finished with eight wins and 21 top five finishes in 23 starts. He raced primarily at LaCrosse (Wisc.) Speedway. After that season ended in the beginning of September, he ran a handful of events at Elko (Minn.) Speedway in an attempt to pick up a few more valuable points. In the end, Carlson’s 862 points from his top 18 finishes was enough to hold off the challenges of Woody Pitkat and defending champion Philip Morris.
