BURLINGTON, WI (Tuesday, November 11, 2008) – 2008 American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment champion Dan Fredrickson is hoping to add another item to his great short track racing resume, a win at the famous Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL. But, before he can accomplish that goal, he needs to meet the first goal of getting there.
Fredrickson is looking for sponsors to help him and his team travel down to the famous short track event. This year’s Snowball Derby will take place on December 3-7th.
“As far as national races go, the Snowball Derby is one of the big ones. I would like to go down and represent the Midwest and run well,” Fredrickson stated. “We ran there in the 2002 American Speed Association National Series race. I led for a while and finished third behind Joey Clanton and David Stremme.”
Fredrickson feels that he will be competitive at Five Flags Speedway as the track has an abrasive surface. A surface that Fredrickson feels would work to his advantage. “The surface is very comparable to I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN and at the Minnesota State Fair where I finished third as well.”
Earlier this year, Fredrickson dominated the ASAMT event at I-94 Raceway and collected one of his three victories of the season. Fredrickson lapped all but one car in that event.
One of the things that may prevent the defending ASAMT champion from going are the expenses that he and his team would run into at the event, “The biggest expense are the tires, you really can’t make more than 10-12 laps on a set of practice tires,” Fredrickson stated. “We will need a minimum of six set of tires. The race alone is a 16-tire event, so another part of my expense is also getting my crew down there to help during the race. We are looking for a minimum of $12,000 to go.”
When asked about the benefits of sponsoring the champion at a Florida event, Fredrickson sees it as a long term opportunity, “The event gets a lot of national recognition and with me coming from Minnesota to compete should give us some extra attention with the media covering it,” Fredrickson said. “Plus, I look at this as a start towards our 2009 ASAMT season, creating lasting business to business relationships that is well known in racing.”
But, time is of the essence for Fredrickson and his team as they will have to make a tough decision by the end of this week. “I’m aware that a lot of people don’t have the extra cash right now, but I am willing to work with anyone who is interested,” Fredrickson stated. “I am open to one sponsor or many sponsors helping out with this, along with our racing program in 2009 and defending our ASAMT championship.”

Fredrickson will receive his 2008 ASAMT championship trophy at the ASAMT Championship Banquet on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI. ASAMT teams are reminded to make their hotel reservations now for this fun weekend for the entire family.
