CAMERON DODSON MAKES AN IMPRESSIVE DEBUT IN THE ASA MIDWEST TOUR EVENT AT OKTOBERFEST

By: Kevin Ramsell
BURLINGTON, WI (Thursday, October 9, 2008) – The 39th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway is one of the more popular racing events in the country. This past weekend, Cameron Dodson got to experience his first Oktoberfest and made the most of it as he finished sixth in his first start with the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment.

“I would consider my first Oktoberfest a great experience.  I was very pleased at the outcome,” Dodson, from Greenfield, IN, stated after driving a super late model prepared by Tim Schendel and his Iron Eagle Motorsports Team.  “I enjoyed working with Tim Schendel and his crew guys; they were great guys, worked very hard and gave me an excellent car.  I enjoyed the competition of the race, the series was enjoyable to work with, and the race has a lot of history.”

Dodson already has a strong racing resume driving under the Rising Star Driver Development, LLC banner. The 2007 USAC Silver Crown Rookie of the Year drives the #199 C&R Chassis for Carl Edwards/R.E. Technologies Team.

He recently won the USAC Silver Crown Series event at Iowa Speedway back on August 10th. The same track that Schendel won the ASAMT event back on July 20th.

The momentum he gained with the win at Iowa Speedway came with him to the .545-mile semi-banked oval at La Crosse.

He qualified 12th out of 48 competitors on hand, finished second in his 25-lap qualifier race on Saturday night. He even battled for the lead near the end with eventual winner Frank Kreyer.

He completed his weekend by running in the top-ten throughout the entire 100-lap feature event, coming home with the sixth place finish.

“I thought that the weekend was excellent for my first super late model race.  I was very happy and proud at the outcome of the race,” Dodson stated.  “The car handled very well, I thought I adapted very well to the car.  Tim Schendel curved my learning curve very much and taught me the fundamentals of a super late model.”

“I thought it was excellent working with Ron and Tim Schendel and his guys.  They are very pleasant to work for,” Dodson said about working with Schendel’s team over the weekend.  “They put a good car together.  I appreciate the opportunity they gave me and hope to run more races for them in the future.  I could not have done it without them.  They are a great group of guys.”

“He did a really good job, he exceeded all of my expectations, my goal was to have him run well and just make the show, and he did more than what we hoped for,” Tim Schendel, who finished third in the point standings this season, stated. “With the competition the ASAMT has, he did a great job running up front with some of the best drivers, it says a lot about the competitor he is. It also makes our team feel good about putting a car together for someone with his talents and to get in it and be successful in his first start.”

And how does racing in the ASAMT compare with the competition he faces in the USAC Silver Crown Series? “The competition in both USAC and ASA Midwest are very stout.  USAC has some of the best open wheel drivers in the country and ASA Midwest has some of the best stock car drivers in the country.  I love running for both of them.”

While many in attendance were able to see his racing skills in person, many more ASAMT fans may get their opportunity next season, “I hope that the ASA Midwest fans will see me at all of the races next year,” Dodson announced.  “I look forward to putting on a good show for the fans because that is what it’s all about, the fans is what makes it happen.”

He hopes that competing in the ASAMT will help him achieve his ultimate goal, “My ultimate goal in life is to end up being a professional race car driver in NASCAR.  I just want to be able to make a living driving race cars.  I am hoping to run USAC and ASA Midwest next year with some ARCA.  By the end of the year I would like to be signed with a NASCAR team.”
