OKTOBERFEST ASAMT WRAP-UP NOTES

By: Kevin Ramsell
BURLINGTON, WI (Wednesday, October 08, 2008) – The second season of the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment is now in the history books. Dan Fredrickson ended a great season on a high note with his third win of the season at Oktoberfest and also claimed the 2008 championship.

THE CHAMPION NUMBERS

Fredrickson’s championship run included two ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment Fast Qualifier awards (Elko and Dells), three wins (Madison, I-94, and Oktoberfest), nine top-five and 11 top-ten finishes in 14 starts.

Another number to pass along in association with the new champion is four. Fredrickson and his wife are expecting their fourth child in March. Congratulations!!!

DEFENDING ASAMT CHAMPION HAS A GREAT FEST

Defending ASAMT champion Nathan Haseleu struggled at the beginning of the 2008 season but ended it on a high note this past weekend at Oktoberfest as he collected his second straight runners-up finish on Sunday.

On Friday, Haseleu surprised many, including himself, as he was the overall winner in the Dick Trickle “99” Super Late Model race. In the unique three 33-lap segment event, Haseleu finished eighth in the first, eighth in the second, and third in the final segment for a low score total of 19, finishing two points ahead of Jason Weinkauf.

On Saturday, he along with his Swiss Colony/raceteamgear.com crew won the Best Appearing Car & Crew competition beating out fellow ASAMT competitor Jonathan Eilen. The competition was voted on by the fans who attended the Saturday night event.

HARD CHARGIN TO THE FRONT

Travis Sauter secured the Lefthander Chassis Hard Charger Award on Sunday as he started 25th and finished third. He wasn’t the only hard charger in the race as Frank Kreyer, who took the “Ultimate Challenge,” started 30th and finished 13th. Kyle Calmes started 27th and finished 12th, and Steve Holzhausen started 15th and finished fourth.

Sauter will receive a new Lefthander Chassis at the Championship Award Banquet on January 24, 2009 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

CAMERON WHO?

Cameron Dodson made an impressive debut in the ASAMT driving one of Tim Schendel’s cars this past weekend. He finished sixth on Sunday in the feature event and qualified 12th out of 48 cars.

Dodson, the 2007 USAC Silver Crown Rookie of the Year, is hoping to compete in the full next season in the ASAMT. He is part of the Rising Star Driver Development Program, LLC.

Watch for a complete story on this impressive young driver soon.

HERE ARE SOME NUMBERS TO THIS SEASON
