BURLINGTON, WI (Tuesday, September 02, 2008) – Jamie Iverson made his shortest drive to an American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment event to a winning drive in front of over 4,000 fans and family including his father and driver, the legendary Bob Iverson. While Iverson took the win, second place finisher Dan Fredrickson ended a drought that he needed to end.
LET’S GET TO THE POINTS!
It was a role reversal for Fredrickson and Donny Reuvers at Norway Speedway. In the previous two events at Shakopee and Milwaukee, Fredrickson would experience engine problems causing him to have his worst finishes of the year allowing Reuvers to get within five points of him in the standings.
This past Sunday night, Reuvers was involved in 11-car crash in turn one on lap 11, which gave a 22nd place finish while Fredrickson would battle for the lead all night with Iverson and would come home second. Fredrickson now has a 58-point lead over Reuvers with two events remaining in the 2008 season.
Chris Wimmer had another top-five run to take over third place in the point standings, sitting 152 points behind Fredrickson while Tim Schendel, coming off a top-ten run, is fourth only 165 points back.
Jonathan Eilen is only 193 points back in fifth after another top-ten run while Iverson is only ten points behind Eilen in sixth, 203 points behind Fredrickson.
LEFTHANDER CHASSIS HARD CHARGER BATTLE GETTING TIGHT AS WELL
While many are focused on the point’s battle, many of the competitors are keeping a close eye on the Lefthander Chassis Hard Charger battle as well.
Travis Sauter currently sits on top of these standings with 62 points with Eilen only five points behind him in second with 57. Chris Wimmer gained eight spots on Sunday to move up to third in the standings only eight points behind Sauter. Dan Fredrickson is fourth with 46 points and Bryan Roach is fifth with 45 points.
QUALIFYING WAS THE TALK AGAIN AT NORWAY
Last year, the ASAMT made its debut at Norway Speedway with Nathan Haseleu setting a fast time of 14.703 seconds. In its return appearance, 25 of the 31 competitors on hand qualified under last year’s mark with Chris Wimmer now owning the ASAMT track record with a time of 14.284 seconds.
Kris Kelly, who had the shortest drive among all of the ASAMT competitors as he competed in his hometown, was the 16th competitor to get in the main event on time. When it was announced that he was in the show, the grandstands cheered for the hometown Touring Star.
By the way, Kelly got that spot by 0.004 seconds over 17th qualifier Rich Loch.
The top 16 in time were separated by 0.296 seconds. The entire field was separated by 0.909 seconds.
A VERY SPECIAL EVENT IS UP NEXT FOR THE ASAMT
The four events in four weeks stretch will come to an end this upcoming Sunday afternoon as the ASAMT makes its debut at Marshfield Speedway in Marshfield, WI. But this event will not be your typical event, as it will honor a great fan the racing community recently lost.
The Kim Parsons Memorial 100 is an event that event promoter Steve Parsons is holding dear to his heart. Kim was the 21-year-old daughter of Steve that lost her life in a tragic accident. Kim and Steve had a special bonding through auto racing. Whenever he would go to a track to announce or to watch, she was his buddy and enjoyed the sport either equally or more than her father.
Steve asked the ASAMT to come and help make this event a special event for his family and friends of Kim Parsons. It will be a day for many to honor not only a great fan of the sport, but someone who loved the sport and did everything to help this sport get better and better.
Sponsors assisting with this event includes: Miller Lite, Earth Incorporated, RZ Builders Inc., Stratford State Bank, CAS Construction, Riverview Construction, and Don Fanetti Trucking.
Qualifying will get underway at 2 pm, autograph session at 3 pm, and racing will get underway at 4 pm. The Limited Late Models and 4-cylinders will also be in action on Sunday afternoon.
