REUVERS HAS A BIG NIGHT AT SHAKOPEE

FEATURE RESULTS

By: Kevin Ramsell
SHAKOPEE, MN (Sunday, August 17, 2008) – Donny Reuvers is a four-time defending track champion at Raceway Park in Shakopee, MN. Tonight, he showed why as he collected his third American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment win of the season by winning the Shakopee 100 and gained valuable points on Dan Fredrickson.

“It was awesome; we had a really good car. We kind of screwed up in qualifying a little bit and I didn’t qualify as well as we should,” Reuvers stated in victory lane. “But that put on the front row but fortunately that put us on the front row which helped for the race.”

With fast qualifier Travis Sauter rolling a three and causing the top eleven to invert, that put Reuvers on the outside of the front row for the 100-lap main event and go wire-to-wire in the win.

Current ASAMT point leader Dan Fredrickson started eighth and was running a steady race working his way up to sixth. But with 10 laps to go, smoke started coming from his car and he would pull off two laps later allowing Reuvers to gain valuable points.

“You hate to see somebody have some bad luck and some problems like that,” Reuvers stated. “You never want to gain points like that, but that is how racing is. We have lost points that way and we will gain some points that way as well.”

At the last event at Wisconsin International Raceway, Reuvers fell out early with mechanical problems allowing Fredrickson to gain 46 points on Reuvers. Tonight, Reuvers unofficially got those for 46 points back and gained 12 points on Fredrickson.

Jonathan Eilen came home second after starting fifth and was satisfied with his run. “It was a real good run for us to finish second and hold off Steve (Carlson),” Eilen stated after the race. “Donny’s car is just a little bit better than ours and just glad to bring it home in one piece.”

Eilen did have a chance at Reuvers after the caution flew with 11 laps go after Jeff Storm on the front stretch. But Reuvers was just too strong for Eilen to challenge. “I thought I might have a run for him, but he has a lot of laps on this track, and he probably knows this track like the back of his hand,” Eilen stated. “We have only run like three nights out here, all in all it’s a good night for us.”

Steve Carlson competed in his sixth ASAMT event of the season and picked up his sixth top-five finish with a third place run.

“I had a top-three car so that is not so bad,” Carlson stated afterwards. “We were just tight, the car wouldn’t turn right. Third isn’t so bad.”

Rich Loch had a great run to come home with a fourth place finish, his first ever top five in the ASAMT. Chris Wimmer collected another top-five with his fifth place finish.

Jamie Iverson was sixth with Nathan Haseleu finishing in seventh. Farrell would finish eighth after running in the top five in the early going. Nick Murgic had to win a qualifier race to make the field and came home ninth. Blake Horstman rounded out the top ten.

The ASAMT teams will now go from one of its smallest tracks to the longest track next Sunday for the Wisconsin All-Star 100 with Matt Kenseth, a Five Star Stock Car Bodies No Bull Event, at The Milwaukee Mile. Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch will be racing with the ASAMT Touring Stars and the best Super Late Model drivers in the Midwest as part of the The Mile’s Governor’s Cup weekend.
