BURLINGTON, WI (Monday, August 04, 2008) – The American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment teams, fans and officials are gearing up for the return to Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI for the 27th Annual SCAG Power Equipment Dixieland 150 on Tuesday, August 5th. Along with the ASAMT, the BRP Big 8 Series presented by Gandrud Chevrolet will also be competing on Tuesday night.
FOUR PAST WINNERS RETURN
As of this writing, 37 entries have been filed for Tuesday’s ASAMT event. Four of those entered are past Dixieland winners.
Rich Bickle Jr., the 1989 champion, will be back behind the wheel of his well known #45 Super Late Model. Bickle competed in last year’s event but fell out early with ignition problems.
Steve Carlson will be looking for his sixth Dixieland title on Tuesday night. The 1997, 98, 2001, 03, and 04 champion finished 7th in last year’s event.
1992 champion Steve Holzhausen will be back to better his 22nd place finish last season. Last month, Holzhausen finished second in the White Race of the Red, White, and Blue Series event.
And you can’t forget last year’s champion and current NASCAR Sprint Cup point leader Kyle Busch will be back to defend his 2007 win. This will be Busch’s third appearance in ASAMT competition this year. Back in May he finished third at Madison International Speedway and had a dominant car in the last event at Iowa Speedway but fell out due to mechanical problems to finish 22nd.
HASELEU AND NEVILLE GAIN MOMENTUM FOR THE DIXIELAND
Nate Haseleu finished first and third finishes gave him the overall win in the Twin 50-lap features at Madison International Speedway this past Friday night. Haseleu also set a fast lap of 17.598, which was close to the track record.
But, the biggest surprise of the night at MIS was the debut of Nick Neville in a Super Late Model at MIS. Nick brought his Super Late Model to MIS to just test on Friday, but decided to compete in the Twin 50’s that night. He finished ninth in the first 50-lapper but came back to win the second 50-lap feature event holding off Steve Rubeck and Haseleu for the win.
Nick, along with his brother Derek, will be making their ASAMT debut on Tuesday at WIR. Derek did not compete at MIS this past Friday, but both have had practice on the unique “D” shaped half-mile oval. Nick will have Kevin Tunks as his crew chief while Derek will have Mike Butz as his.
