SCHENDEL ROCKETS TO WIN AT IOWA SPEEDWAY

FINAL RESULTS

By: Kevin Ramsell
NEWTON, IA (Sunday, July 20, 2008) – All weekend long Tim Schendel was fast around the 7/8-mile Iowa Speedway as he was able to back up those fast times in practice and qualifying by taking the Rasmussen Group Twin 75’s in front of an announced attendance of 14,888.

“It’s a relief actually because we knew we were capable of winning,” Schendel stated after the race. “To get this, this is awesome and it’s a relief to get a pole and a win.”

For Schendel this is an emotional win, “It’s starting to yeah,” when asked about the emotions hitting him soon after the race. “Usually it doesn’t happen until the next morning when you wake up. Everybody has put in such long hours, me and Chris (Bires, his crew chief) we worked almost until 3 in the morning probably for two weeks with getting everything ready for this weekend and it paid off. We put a lot of work into it and my dad put a lot of money into it along with all of our sponsors and everybody involved. They all gave 100% and I have to give 110% also.”

The inaugural event for the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment at “America’s Place to Race” saw five lead changes among five drivers and with the caution flying five times.

Landon Cassill led the first lap of the event but Jamie Iverson made his present known as he took over the top spot on lap two.

Kyle Busch flew through the field after starting 11th and took over the top spot on lap 8 from Iverson.

Busch would then dominate by pulling away from the rest of the field to the halfway break. At the start of the second half, Busch would lead the first four laps until he fell off the pace and retired with mechanical problems.

Jonathan Eilen would inherit the lead for one lap until he was passed by Schendel on lap 81. Schendel would go on to take the checkered flag while Eilen would hold off Matt Kenseth and Donny Reuvers for second.

“The car was really tight in the beginning and when we came in for a caution, we made a couple of adjustments and the car was really good after that,” Eilen stated after the race. “Tim was just a little bit better but I had a lot of fun, this is a great place to race at and I look forward to coming back here next year.”

Kenseth, who was making his first visit Iowa Speedway, was pleased with his third place finish. “It was good, it was a lot of fun, and it was a great racetrack. We were off quite a bit and we made some adjustments and got it better. I had a good time racing with these guys.”

Kenseth also praised the facility, “It’s a great track, a lot of great fans here, and a great facility. It was a lot of fun.”

Chris Wimmer came home fifth after starting 16th with Iverson coming home sixth.

16-year-old Bondurant, IA native Thor Anderson finished seventh while Blake Horstman came home eighth. NASCAR Nationwide Series competitor and Cedar Rapids, IA native Landon Cassill was ninth. Travis Sauter rounded out the top ten.

The ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Power Equipment next event will be Tuesday, August 5th at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI for the running of the SCAG Power Equipment Dixieland 150. Kyle Busch will be back to defend his 2007 win.
