NEWTON, IA (Saturday, July 19, 2008) – Tim Schendel led a group of 20+ cars who took the opportunity to practice for tomorrow’s Rasmussen Group Twin 75’s at Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA. Schendel set a fast time of 23.029 seconds around the 7/8-mile Rusty Wallace designed oval.

2007 ASAMT Rookie of the Year Jonathan Eilen was second with a time of 23.735 seconds with Donny Reuvers in third with a time of 23.870 seconds.

2008 Lane Automotive Rookie of the Year contender Nick Murgic was fourth with a time of 24.134 seconds while current ASAMT point leader Dan Fredrickson was fifth with a time of 24.143 seconds.

Also, participating in the practice session today was 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Matt Kenseth. Kenseth was the first car on the track this morning as he was making his first ever visit to the premiere Iowa facility. He was 11th in the last session with a time of 24.391 seconds.

Kenseth did state that the Speedway is fast and it reminds him of characteristics at USA International Raceway in Lakeland, FL and Richmond International Raceway.

The only incident of the day occurred during the second practice session when Kris Kelly’s car broke loose going into turn three. Kelly was able to drive the car back to the pits, but his team spent the rest of the day repairing the car.

The schedule for tomorrow calls for the garage to open at 7:00 am with parking lot and public viewing opening at 9:00 am. Spectator gates open at Noon.

There will be two ASAMT practices on Sunday morning with the first one from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and the second going from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm.

ASAMT qualifying will begin at 1:30 pm. The rock band Firehouse will then take to the stage at 2:30 pm for a concert.

The ASAMT “B� Main will get underway at 4:00 pm with the top two advancing to the main event.

The racing action will get underway at 5:15 pm with the ARCA Lincoln Welding Trucks 50-lap feature event followed by the ASAMT Rasmussen Group Twin 75’s.
