GRUNDY WRAP-UP NOTES
By: Kevin Ramsell
MORRIS, IL (Monday, June 23, 2008) – The question used to be when would Donny Reuvers win an ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment event. But now, the question is who can beat the Dundas, MN driver after he won his second race in a row on Sunday as he captured the ECHO Power Blower 100 presented by ProSource Motorsports and Hype Energy Drink.
REUVERS JOINS AN ELITE CLUB
Reuvers second win makes him only the third driver 16 ASAMT events to have more than one win as he joins Dan Fredrickson and Jonathan Eilen on the list of multiple winners in the second year series.
He, along with Fredrickson, is the only two drivers to win back-to-back ASAMT wins. Last year, Fredrickson won back-to-back events at Raceway Park in Shakopee, MN and Oktoberfest at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI.
GOPHER MANIA IN THE ASAMT
The streak is now at seven in a row. That streak is the numbers of events that a Minnesota driver has won an ASAMT event going back to Fredrickson win at Raceway Park last August.
Ironically, the next event is Saturday, July 5th at I-94 Raceway. Oh…that track is located in Sauk Centre, MN.
A BLANKET OVER THE FIELD
Once again, the tough competition in the ASAMT was shown by how close the times were in qualifying.
It was only 0.625 seconds between fast qualifier Johnny Sauter and 30th qualifier Jerick Johnson. In fact, the top 29 was only separated by 0.486 seconds.
And, the top 11 in qualifying beat last year’s fast time of 15.130 seconds set by Fredrickson with Johnny Sauter setting a new mark of 14.960 seconds.
Ironically, when Sauter came out to receive his ECHO Power Blower for fast time, he rolled a three. Take that three plus eight, and the invert was 11 for the main event.
MOTHER NATURE LIKES RACING
ASAMT officials kept an eye to the sky and to the radar on Sunday as rain were popping up all over the northeast Illinois area, but none of those showers came over the 1/3-mile oval.
In fact, some were reporting heavy showers about 10 miles east in Joliet, IL that it rained so hard that cars were pulling over to the side of the road.
But, at the track, it was partly sunny in the low 80’s throughout the day and it was partly sunny and 72 degrees as the green flag flew on the ECHO Power Blower 100 presented by ProSource Motorsports and Hype Energy Drink.
UP NEXT
The ASAMT teams will return to Minnesota on Saturday, July 5th for the July Spectacular 100 at I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN. Last year, it was Jacob Goede picking up his first ASAMT win.
Fans, teams and sponsors are invited to participate in the St. Francis Cancer Center 1st Annual Charity Golf Event on Friday, July 4th. The afternoon of fun includes nine holes of golf at Lynx Golf Course followed by a dinner at I-94 Raceway.
All money raised will go to St. Francis Cancer Center. For more information, please view the flyer and entry form located at www.asamidwesttour.com.
