FREDRICKSON CONTINUES TO LEAD ASAMT POINTS AFTER THREE EVENTS

By: Kevin Ramsell
BURLINGTON, WI (Thursday, May 22, 2008) – After competing at one of the series most challenging tracks, Dan Fredrickson’s fourth place finish allowed him to stay on top of the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment’s point standings after three events. With his fourth place finish in the Kwik Trip Stores 100 at Jefferson Speedway this past Saturday, he now holds a 69 point lead over Andrew Morrissey.

Morrissey, who is coming off his third place finish at Jefferson, may be one of the biggest surprises this season in the ASAMT. With a recent sponsor signing, he could be a contender for the championship. He had a strong run at each of the three events so far this season. His worse finish came at Madison where he did lead the most laps but was involved in a late caution with Travis Sauter and came home with a 12th place finish.

Morrissey will be one to watch at Dells Raceway Park on Sunday, June 1st. Last year, he finished second in points and had six feature wins at the 1/3 mile facility.

Donny Reuvers collected his second top-ten of the season with his 10th place finish at Jefferson. He has moved up to third in points, only 80 points behind Fredrickson.

Travis Sauter sits in fourth only 92 points behind from Fredrickson after his 8th place finish at Jefferson. It’s his second top-ten finish in the three events so far this season.

Former NASCAR Elite Division Midwest Series Champion, Tim Schendel, is making his presence known in the point’s battle as he currently sits fifth, only 93 points back from Fredrickson. Schendel finished 11th at Jefferson but is not that far behind Fredrickson.

Many race fans may recall the battle that Fredrickson and Schendel had going for the NASCAR Elite Division championship in 2006 where it came down to the last lap. There are still ten races yet to go this season, could we see a possible replay?

Jefferson Fast Qualifier and new track record holder, Blake Horstman, has moved up to sixth in points sitting 97 points behind Fredrickson. He followed up his qualifying efforts by finishing a strong fifth in last Saturday night’s event.

Elko winner, Jake Ryan, had his struggles at Jefferson but currently sits seventh in points only 113 points behind his Minnesota racing friend.

Chris Wimmer competed for the first time ever at Jefferson this past weekend and came home with a 15th place finish. He currently sits eighth, 116 points behind the leader.

Jonathan Eilen’s win at Jefferson catapulted him into the top ten for the first time this season as he now site ninth in points, only 119 points behind Fredrickson. While Jefferson second place finisher, Jamie Iverson, moved into tenth, only 128 points back.

Russ Blakeley is the first driver on the outside of the top ten and he is only one point behind Iverson for that position. Lane Automotive Rookie contenders Matt Kocourek and Nick Murgic sit 12th and 13th respectively in the standings.

And don’t count defending ASAMT Champion, Nate Haseleu out yet. With his seventh place finish this past Saturday, he has moved from 20th to 16th in points, only 168 points back from Fredrickson.

Looking at the point breakdown from Jefferson, Morrissey earned the most points by picking up 133 points. Jonathan Eilen was second with 130 points and Jamie Iverson was third with 129 points. Dan Fredrickson and Blake Horstman tied for fourth with 128 points. A full breakdown can be found at http://stats.asamidwesttour.com.
