BURLINGTON, WI (Monday, May 19, 2008) - The third event of the 2008 ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment season, the Kwik Trip Stores 100, is now in the record books. Jonathan Eilen became the second driver to capture more than one ASAMT win as he now joins Dan Fredrickson on the list. Eilen’s last win came at the ASAMT Inaugural event at Elko Speedway in April, 2007.
HORSTMAN SETS A NEW MARK AT JEFFERSON
Blake Horstman was still surprised as he accepted his first ECHO Power Blower for setting the fast time at Jefferson Speedway. Horstman didn’t think he would be that fast.
But he, along with Matt Kocourek, both qualified under the old track record set by Dan Lensing last year. Lensing set a fast time of 13.815 seconds (65.146 mph). Horstman ripped off a lap of 13.729 seconds (65.554 mph). Kocourek’s lap time was 13.775 seconds (65.335 mph).
The difference from the fast qualifier, Horstman, to the slowest qualifier, Russ Blakeley’s 14.491 seconds (62.107 mph), was 0.762 seconds.
LAST MINUTE MURGIC
Nick Murgic and his pit crew are probably still recovering after the flurry they went through from the last chance race to the main event. That is because Murgic was a last minute addition to the Kwik Trip Stores 100. He managed to come home with a 19th place finish.
Murgic was a last minute addition after Doug Hahn had to withdraw from the feature event with engine problems he developed in the last chance race.
JEFFERSON LOCAL COMPETITORS FIT RIGHT IN
Even though Jefferson Speedway doesn’t run a super late model class as part of its weekly program, three of their drivers joined the ASAMT to compete this past Saturday night.
Steve Dobbratz made his third ASAMT start by qualifying 16th and automatically locking himself into the main event. He would fall out of the race on lap 47 with mechanical problems and finish 25th.
Dylan Schuyler qualified 21st and earned his way into the main event with a fourth place finish in the last chance race. He would also suffer mechanical problems and finish 24th.
Defending Jefferson Speedway champion, Doug Hahn, qualified 24th and would have made the main event via the Jefferson Speedway 2007 points provisional that the ASAMT had designated for the event. But, as noted above, engine problems prevented him from competing.
“Jefferson races limited late models on a weekly basis, it was great to see these three drivers come and compete with us,” Steve Einhaus, ASAMT VP stated. “I heard a lot of fans say they were excited to see their own weekly competitors running with us.”
THANK YOU!!!!
Everyone with the ASAMT, from the teams and officials, would like to give a huge thank you to the Jefferson Speedway Hobby Stocks and Bandit divisions, along with their officials, for their assistance in drying the track.
Jefferson Speedway announcer, Randy Kamenick, even gave $10 out of his own pocket to the first Hobby Stock to come on the track and help dry it.
With their help, the ASAMT was able to complete the Kwik Trip Stores 100. Unfortunately, as the checkered flag fell another band of showers started to fall on the track postponing their Bandit division feature for this Saturday night.
CORRECTION
In the race report, it stated that Andrew Morrissey collected his second third place finish this season. That is incorrect; he collected his second top-10 finish in the three events this season. He placed sixth at Elko and third at Jefferson.
Overall in his six ASAMT starts, this was his second third place finish. We apologize for the error.
DELLS IS NEXT
The next event is scheduled for Sunday, June 1st at Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin Dells, WI for the Miller Lite 100 presented by Arby’s. The entry form is now available at www.asamidwesttour.com.
