BURLINGTON, WI (Friday, March 28, 2008) – Brandon Hill, Travis Sauter, and Kris Kelly are currently getting ready for the 2008 ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment after being recipients of a new built engine they won at the 2007 Championship Banquet. Holley Performance was one of many parts manufacturers involved in assisting with this award program.
The Holley brothers started producing carburetors in 1904 and began providing carburetors to all American automakers. Over 100 years later Holley Performance is still producing carburetors for the street, and race tracks all over the world. Our core business is fuel systems, carburetors, manifolds, fuel pumps, etc. Holley is the parent company of such performance companies as NOS, WEIAND, Earls Performance Plumbing, Hooker Headers and FlowTech Exhaust.
LUNATI Cams was part of the Holley family in 2007 and contributed to the engine give-away program however LUNATI has since been acquired from Holley by another company.
Robert Writesman, the Oval Track Motorsports Manager for Holley Performance, has been employed with the company for over 31 years. He feels that built engines have a more positive impact in racing, “With built engines, the racer, engine builder and series still have some control over the engine package,” Writesman explained. “Crate engines are mass production and horse-power and performance may vary from the dealer. Once the engines reach a point to where they need to be rebuilt you are left to wonder who is legal and who is not.”
Writesman was asked about what can be done today to educate the importance of racing with a built engine, “Not sure it’s as much education as it’s all about the cost of a built racing engine and how long it lasts,” Writesman stated. “With rising costs in every aspect of our life race competitors have to be much more ‘money aware’. Quality aftermarket parts at a reasonable price can make for affordable built racing engines. Education regarding Spec race engines may be of some need. A spec engine helps to keep the engine builder in the game. Anything measured to keep those teams with unlimited resources from running away with the show.”
He also talks about the relationship that Holley Performance has with the ASAMT, “Series such as ASAMT offers the racer’s that want to compete with built racing engines a place to hang their hat. We are all different and seek different levels of life. The same is true in racing and it is a pleasure for Holley Performance to be associated with a series such as ASAMT that has selected their rule package and has focused on their destination.”
And he is also pleased with the immediate impact that the ASAMT has shown, “The ASAMT has shown strong presence is the oval track racing market in a very short period of time. Week after week I received press releases and witnessed pure determination on the part of the ASAMT staff during their first year to quickly earn their position among the ranks of top rated short track series.”
“Bobby Writesman, Holley, and LUNATI were very big supporters of the ASAMT in 2007,” Steve Einhaus, ASAMT VP stated. “Bobby has gone the extra mile to see that we have every thing we need and has given us some great bonus products that we can pass on to the racers. We are honored that he believes in our series and that he is fully supportive of helping us reach our goal to be the best series in the country.”
