CHAMPIONS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS MAKE THE ASAMT OKTOBERFEST 100 “THE PLACE TO BE”

By: Kevin Ramsell
Tuesday, October 02, 2007 (West Salem, WI) – The 38th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend always brings out the best of the best in Midwest asphalt racing. This year, four racing series will have their championships decided at Oktoberfest, along with many 2007 track and series champions also competing.

The ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment will crown its first champion on Sunday, Oktober 7th after the running of the Oktoberfest 100.

Nate Haseleu, who recently won his third consecutive Wisconsin Challenge Series championship, is looking to become the Tour’s first ever champion. Coming into Oktoberfest, Haseleu holds a 47-point lead over Donny Reuvers and a 55-point lead over Dave Feiler. Feiler has collected past championships at Madison International Speedway and Dells Raceway Park.

Reuvers, the Dundas, MN driver recently completed a successful year at both of his Minnesota home tracks. At Raceway Park in Shakopee, MN Reuvers collected 11 feature wins on his way to taking the Super Late Model Championship. This was his third straight and fourth career Championship at Raceway Park. At Elko Speedway, he duplicated the effort as Donny won the Super Late Model Championship by winning the first of two features held on the final night of racing. The two Championships this year combined with the six previous attained, has made Reuvers the most successful driver of recent record in the state of Minnesota.

ASAMT Touring Star, Steve Carlson, not only won the season championship at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway, but is close to capturing the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Championship as well. Carlson currently sits 10th in the ASAMT point standings.

Kevin Nuttleman will also be looking for his 100th feature win at La Crosse this weekend as he will be competing in the La Crosse Late Models and the ASAMT event this weekend. Nuttleman also has multiple track championships.

Tim Rothe recently captured his second straight crown at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI and Jeff Kendall topped a strong field of Super Late Models at Dells Raceway Park to add to his career championship list.

Mike White is making his first appearance at Oktoberfest this year. He has won multiple championships at Illiana, Raceway Park in Blue Island, IL and Grundy County Speedway.

Tim Schendel last year at Oktoberfest, was crowned the final champion in the ARTGO/NASCAR Elite Division Midwest Series era. The native from Sparta, WI is looking to repeat his 2003 and 2005 Oktoberfest wins.

The list goes on as does the American Speed Association’s historical phrase “We Build Champions”. The ASA Midwest Tour has proved to be the toughest series in the country to compete and win in with a galore of champions and experienced super late model racers setting up a stellar field of entries for the Oktoberfest 100.

And of course, when you mention champions you cannot leave out Dick Trickle. Trickle will not only be competing in the “Dick Trickle 99” on Friday night, but he will also compete in the ASAMT Oktoberfest 100 on Sunday afternoon. Last year, Trickle came home with a seventh place finish in the 100-lap event. “With the rule package that the ASAMT has in place, this series will prevail for many years to come and I am happy to be a part of it,” stated Trickle.
