From the Tim Schendel Pits.. A SIXTEENTH PLACE FINISH FOR SCHENDEL IN THE “MARHSFIELD 100”
Coming off his first win of the season last week, Schendel’s night proves not as successful
Sparta, WI, August 22, 2010 -- The last time the ASA Midwest Tour visited the Marshfield Motor Speedway was in 2008 and Sparta, WI native and ASA Touring Star Tim Schendel came away with the win. On Saturday, August 21, the tour went back to central Wisconsin, however, the outcome for Schendel wasn’t as glorious! He ended the race in sixteenth place.
Schendel qualified the #21 TexPar Energy/Festival Foods of Mauston Chevrolet in nineteenth place. Missing a guaranteed spot in the race by one place, he had to run the last chance race to solidify his running. Schendel started this race on the pole and came away with the win. He started the feature in the nineteenth position.
“I kind of a dug ourselves in a hole with the qualifying position I ended up in.” Schendel said after the race. “That just goes to show how competitive each week is in this series...one week you win, the next, you run the last chance race to even make the race!”
Showing patience and determination, Schendel slowly worked his way through the field. Three laps into the race, #25 Ross Kenseth spun out in front of Schendel who was able to avoid contact. This threw the first caution of the race. Halfway into the race, Schendel had passed his way up to the 13th position. When the mandatory caution was called with 25 laps left, Schendel was in 11th place.
After the race resumed, Schendel was racing for the ninth position with the #12 of Nick Murgic for a few laps. Coming out of turn four with seven laps left, Schendel and Murgic made contact and Murgic went into the wall. According to series rules, this sent Schendel to the back. Unable to gain many positions with six laps left, Schendel ended his night in sixteenth place.
“The car got loose by the end of the race.” Schendel said. “The last thing I wanted to do was make contact with Murgic but it really was a handling issue. We had a good run and was gaining throughout the whole race. It was unfortunate it had to end that way.”
Chris Wimmer won the race, his first victory of the 2010 season. Chris Weinkauf and Skylar Holzhausen finished in second and third respectively.
Schendel sits in seventh place in overall series points going into the second to last race on the ASA Midwest Tour schedule on September 5 in Norway, MI.
