“WISCONSIN DELLS 100” WRAP-UP NOTES

By: Kari Carlson
(Tuesday, August 17, 2010) The American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and grandstay.net spent last Saturday night in the deep woods of Wisconsin Dells at Dells Raceway Park where all three ASA Midwest Tour divisions took to the track.

TIM SCHENDEL BACK ON TOP
Sparta, Wisconsin’s Tim Schendel saw the checkered flag wave before anyone else during Saturday night’s 100 lap feature at DRP. This was Schendel’s first win since Marshfield Speedway in 2008. After a string of bad luck, Schendel and the Iron Eagle Racing Team were ecstatic to make it to victory lane once again. Schendel thanked all of his sponsors for sticking with him throughout this season and was proud to get a win for Festival Foods of Mauston who came on board for the weekend.

WIMMER CONTINUES TO MAKE STRIDES
Chris Wimmer topped the qualifying chart for the second time this season and continues to keep Steve Carlson in his sites for the championship. The driver of the #52 Pathfinder Chassis finished sixth on Saturday night and is now only 31 points behind Carlson who finished fourth. Wimmer is also the current leader of the Hedman Husler of the Race Award advancing a total of 41 positions so far this season. Nathan Haseleu follows in second with 38 and Travis Sauter rounds out the top three with 36 advanced positions.

FATHER AND SON HAVE DIFFERENT LUCK AT DRP
Steve Holzhausen and son, Skylar Holzhausen both had high hopes competing in the ASAMT event on Saturday night. Unfortunately during practice, Steve made very hard contact with the turn three wall, climbed the fence and came down in turn four. Holzhausen did sustain some injuries, however the continued changes in safety equipment prove to be doing their job. Thankfully Skylar’s luck was much better. The Nekoosa, WI driver qualified 12th for the main event and backed it up with an eighth place finish.

BATTLE BETWEEN THE BROTHERS CONTINUES
John Wood holds a mere five point lead over his older brother Jerry in the ASA OREGON Midwest Truck Tour. John took home his fourth consecutive victory on Saturday night. Jerry is not letting John maintain his point lead very easily. Jerry finished third after having fast time. Tom McClintock continues to challenge both of the brothers, finishing second behind John and ahead of Jerry.

SPORTSMAN DRIVERS USE RESTARTS TO GAIN POSITION
Twenty-one drivers started the Sportsman feature event. With a handful of cautions, the field had its share of excitement. In the end, Chris Marek was the victor followed by Scott Null and Jay Kalbus. His win put Marek only two points ahead of Jay Kalbus in the current point standings as they head to Marshfield Speedway this coming Saturday.
