ASA Midwest Tour Set To Make History At Shakopee’s Raceway Park

By Dean Reller
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (August 8, 2007) - The American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment is in it’s stretch drive of it’s inaugural season and it’s next stop is Raceway Park in Shakopee, MN. The Shakopee 100 will be held on Sunday August 12th with the Cars and Stars of the ASA Midwest Tour taking on the best local drivers on the tight ¼ mile track.

The concept of the American Speed Association Midwest Tour is based on the format of the former ARTGO Racing Series which visited Shakopee’s Raceway Park in 1983 and 1987. On June 21, 1983, the event consisted of twin 75 lap features won by legendary drivers Mark Martin and Dick Trickle. On June 23, 1987, short-track specialist Butch Miller held off Rich Bickle, Dick Trickle and Joe Shear in the 100 lap event that also saw Dale Earnhardt finish 8th.

Twenty years later, a new generation of drivers looks to write the next page in the record books at the historic Minnesota track with names such as Donny Reuvers, Dan Fredrickson, Dave Feiler, Nathan Haseleu and Jonathan Eilen leading the list of drivers expected to compete for the win in the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour Presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment.

In addition to the ASA Midwest Tour events, Raceway Park Hobby Stocks and Figure 8’s will joining the racing card for the night. Spectator gates open at 3 PM, with ASA Midwest Tour Qualifying set to begin at 4 PM. A driver autograph session is slated for 5 PM, with the first green flag of the night set to fly at 6 PM.
