2009 TOP TEN COUNTDOWN 3rd PLACE-CHRIS WIMMER

Eighth in a series of 10

By: Kari Shear-Carlson
(Friday, March 26, 2010) Chris Wimmer, driver of the #52 Chevrolet, finished a solid third place in the 2009 final point standings in the American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and GrandStay.net.

Wimmer’s season did not get off to a great start after getting caught up in a wreck on lap two of the ASAMT season opener, Joe Shear Classic. Despite this disappointing start, the Wimmer Racing team rallied back when the ASAMT made its second stop of the season at Iowa Speedway. After qualifying in 11th position, Wimmer methodically moved his way to the front of the field. While Tim Schendel and Jonathan Eilen were battling hard in the closing laps, Wimmer made a move to the inside and took over the lead with three laps remaining to claim the victory; his first in the ASA Midwest Tour.

The second of Wimmer’s eight top-ten finishes came at Elko Speedway where he finished with a solid ninth place run. Unfortunately Wimmer was not able to keep his streak alive over the next two races finishing 20th and 17th. Once again the driver of the Pathfinder Chassis found his way back into to the top five with a fifth place finish in the Keith Fleck Memorial at Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids, IA. In the final six races of the season Wimmer only found himself outside of the top ten one more time after an on track incident with Steve Carlson for the lead in the late stages of the Race for the Gold “Silver Race” at Dells Raceway Park.
The driver of the #52 proved once again that he was capable of victory in the famed Dixieland 150 at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, WI. Still hanging onto the lead inside ten laps to go, Wimmer lost his lead to eventual winner Steve Carlson, and fell back to third with five laps to go behind, then current point leader, Nathan Haseleu. Wimmer was happy with another podium finish and followed that event up with another third-place podium finish in the Shakopee 100. Wimmer’s final podium finish of the season came in the final Race for the Gold event, “Gold 125” after finishing second behind ASA Midwest Kwik Trip Touring Star and eventual victor, Dan Fredrickson.
Wimmer rounded out the 2009 season with another top ten after finishing fourth in the 40th Annual Oktoberfest at Lacrosse Fairgrounds Speedway. His fourth place finish in the final race put him only 65 points behind Series Champion Steve Carlson and 46 points behind second place, Nathan Haseleu.
Chris Wimmer will once again be returning to the ASA Midwest Tour as a 2010 ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Touring Star and is sure to be a top contender throughout the entire season.
