ASA MIDWEST SPORTSMAN TOUR 2010 SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

By: Kari Shear-Carlson, ASAMT PR
Burlington, WI (Wednesday, January 13, 2010) The ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour officials have announced the 2010 schedule for the inaugural ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour racing season. The ten-race schedule will allow drivers to compete at some of the most competitive tracks in the Midwest.

Steve Einhaus, Vice President of the ASAMT is excited about the response and the upcoming season. "A lot of people have put forth great effort to make this all happen. Donnie Heelien has done a great job with the rules. We saw an overwhelming turnout at the competitor meetings last weekend in Madison, and we have over 70 drivers registered with intent to race in the tour. We have been working very hard on putting a solid schedule together for the ASA Midwest Sportsman Tour and are happy with what we have for 2010. This is big for these guys and based on the support we are seeing, it’s going to be a big opening day at the Dells on April 24th. I'm confident that the Sportsman Tour will bring value back to these cars and help build car counts at local tracks too, which is very important to all of us.”

To kick off the season, the Sportsman Tour will head to Dells Raceway Park (DRP), an ASA member track, for a 50-lap season opener. DRP is a 1/3-mile track known for its nose to tail racing, sure to provide the fans pure excitement from the drop of the green until the checkered flag falls.

The Sportsman Tour will join the ASA Midwest Tour for eight of ten races throughout the season. The first of which will be a 35-lap feature at Madison International Speedway (MIS), another ASA member track, on May 2nd for the 2nd Annual Joe Shear Classic. Built in 1969, MIS holds some of the fastest times ever recorded on a 1/2-mile. The track has seating for over 10,000 fans and offers a family friendly environment including special activities for kids.

Next on the schedule will be a 40-lap feature at Elko Speedway in Elko, MN on June 5th, home track of Midwest Sportsman Tour driver Joey Miller. Elko Speedway is a high-banked 3/8-mile providing two and sometimes three wide racing action. The track’s pristine facility caters to over 250,000 race fans and entertainment seekers each year.

Fireworks will fly Friday July 2nd when the Sportsman drivers and their teams head to Hawkeye Downs in Cedar Rapids, IA, one of only two asphalt tracks in the state. Cedar Rapids has a rich history with strong family traditions. Hawkeye Downs attracts 100,000 visitors annually to the Cedar Rapids area. Hawkeye Downs has been the leading entertainment venue in eastern Iowa for the last 82 years.

Wisconsin International Raceway (WIR) in Kaukauna, WI will host the Dixieland 40. The popular Tuesday night Dixieland 150 for the ASAMT has been both a fan and driver favorite for many years. The 1/2-mile tri-oval is one of the most challenging tracks for drivers to navigate, which will give way to an exciting night of racing before they head back to DRP on Saturday August 14th.

On August 21st drivers will take to the wide progressively banked 1/2-mile of Marshfield Motor Speedway testing their skill through its thrilling high-speed sweeping turns followed by a final trip to DRP on September 11th. The season will conclude on October 2nd at Elko Speedway for the Thunder Car Nationals Championship 50-lap feature.
