ASA Midwest Tour Invades Minnesota This Weekend

By Natasha Steenbergen and Dean Reller
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (July 6, 2007) – The auto racing teams of the American Speed Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment are traveling over 800 miles over ten days to compete in three events, and they’ll be on a roll as they head into Sauk Centre Saturday July 7 to race at I-94 Raceway. Just four days after racing in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and six days before heading south to Morris, Illinois, Sauk Centre will be the second stop on the campaign and the seventh event of the season for the best racers in the Midwest.

One of the hottest drivers on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series circuit will be joining in good, hard Super Late Model racing with the Touring Stars and hometown heroes. Ron Hornaday who continues to break his own record as the winningest drivers in the Truck Series picked up his second win of ’07 in Dover recently and is aiming for the Winner’s Circle in a Maynard Motorsports (Wisconsin-based) entry sponsored by Heat N Glo.

Local hot shoes Dan Fredrickson (Lakeville), Josh Vadnais (White Bear Lake), Donny Reuvers (Dundas), Adam Royle (Farmington), Bryan Roach (Minneapolis), Benny VanCleve (Prior Lake), Steve Carlson (West Salem, WI), Travis Sauter (Necedah, WI), Kenny Richards (Montello, WI), Nathan Haseleu (Marshall, WI), Rod Wheeler (Appleton, WI), Brad “JJ” Mueller (Random Lake, WI), Dave Feiler (Sun Prairie, WI), and Jamie Iverson (Escanaba, MI) are also expected to enter.

Dan Fredrickson of Lakeville, MN won the ASA Midwest Tour’s most recent race at Wisconsin’s LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway on Tuesday. Fredrickson might be considered one of the drivers to watch as he recorded a Super Late Model feature win at the I-94 Raceway just two weeks ago. Several drivers such as Kenny Richards, Dave Feiler and Travis Sauter will be making their first ever trip to the 3/8-mile track located just off Interstate 94 in central Minnesota. Donny Reuvers leads the ASA Midwest Tour points heading into the event. Several young drivers such as Nick Panitzke, Zac Davids and David Fredrickson, regular racers at the I-94 Raceway, will be making their first ASA Midwest Tour start of the season.

Besides the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour Presented By Echo Outdoor Power Equipment race, the Legends Cars National Qualifying Race will be held along with Modified and UCAR races. Spectator gates open at 3 PM, with ASA Midwest Tour Qualifying set to begin at 4PM. The July Spectacular program will take the first green flag of the night at 7 PM.

I-94 Raceway is a 3/8-mile paved oval located at 40252 410th St., Sauk Centre, MN 56378 on the South end of the city.

In a salute to military members past and present, anyone showing proper military identification will be admitted FREE to Saturday’s July Spectacular 100 at the I-94 Raceway.

Super Late Models are 500 horsepower fully fabricated tubular frame specially engineered racecars that can make a lap around I-94 Raceway in less than 17 seconds. The ARTGO Late Model track record was set by Jim Weber in 1994 and stands at 15.555 seconds. More recently, Trevor Stewart set the MARS Late Model track record in 2005 with a lap of 16.565 seconds.
