From the Tim Schendel Pits.. SCHENDEL FINISHES FOURTH IN OVERALL SEASON POINTS IN ASA MIDWEST TOUR. Schendel finishes out the season at the 40th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend

Sparta, WI, October 12, 2009 --ASA Midwest Tour driver and Sparta, WI native Tim Schendel came into the last weekend of the 2009 ASA Midwest Tour with high hopes and what he thought was a good car. In the end, Schendel found himself in a position he has unfortunately been in too many times this year! He finished seventeenth in the 40th Annual Oktoberfest race at the LaCrosse County Fairgrounds in West Salem, WI after struggling from a bad qualifying run and a loose car throughout the race.

“This season has definitely not been one of our best seasons” Schendel said. “We came into Oktoberfest after testing with a good car and we were really pumped up to have a good race. But, the qualifying hurt us and everything seemed to go downhill after that. We just havenʼt had good luck this year!”

Schendel qualifed the #21 TexPar Energy in the twenty-first position. Because he wasnʼt in the top eighteen, which automatically are entered into the feature, Schendel had to run in a last chance qualifying race which he won. He started the race in nineteenth place. In the beginning of the race, Schendel was hit from behind which spun him around. He was sent to the back of the pack due to the “fail to tail” rule and found himself in the pits numerous times after that trying to correct problems the spin had caused.

“The spin in the beginning of the race was really what started all of the trouble that I had.” Schendel said. “I kept going into the pits to try to get a better race car. It was really loose and hard to handle. I didnʼt want to end the season that way but I guess thatʼs racing!”

Travis Sauter wound up in victory circle with Steve Carlson in second and Steve Holzhausen in third. This race also crowned Steve Carlson as the ASA Midwest Tour champion. Schendel ended up in fourth place in overall points in the tour.

“Iʼm happy with an overall fourth place finish in the tour this year considering everything we have been through!” Schendel said. “Steve had a really good year and a lot of good races and I congratulate him!”

Schendel also ran in the Dick Trickle 99 race held on Friday night. This race was a three segment race made up of thirty three laps in each segment. Schendel finished in sixth place overall.

Up next for Schendel and the Iron Eagle Racing team is the ASA Championship Banquet to be held in January.
