The last race of the ASA Midwest Tour season has Schendel hoping for first season win
Sparta, WI, October 9, 2009 -- ASA Midwest Tour driver and Sparta, WI native Tim Schendel will have one last chance this weekend to do something that has alluded him this season...win a race! Schendel and his team will be at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI for the 40th Annual Oktoberfest Race weekend.

“I sure would like to win a race this season.” Schendel said. “Weʼve worked hard getting the cars ready for this race...we took the #21 TexPar Energy Chevrolet out and did some testing on this track last week. We will have two cars racing this weekend and both were very good in the test. Hopefully, the track wonʼt change too much since our practice session.”

The Oktoberfest race weekend is a four day event steeped in tradition and marked as one of the greatest race events in the Midwest. This weekend crowns the champions of nineteen different race series. But, the ASA Midwest Series winner is crowned the overall Oktoberfest Champion.

Winning this race is something Schendel has done in the past...twice! Schendel won in 2003 racing in the NASCAR ITEMS series and again in 2005 where he not only won the race, but clinched the NASCAR Autozone Elite Series championship. Heʼll have a tough battle this year with 42 cars entered to compete.

Although not in contention for this yearʼs ASA Midwest Series championship, Schendel is in a heated battle for fourth place. He currently sits in fourth place only two points ahead of Jonathan Eilen.

“There are a lot of good drivers entered this weekend. Iʼve won this race twice before and winning it a third time would be awesome!” Schendel stated. “Iʼm hoping we can have some good luck! Luck is what we need most of all because it really hasnʼt been on our side this season!”

Practice for the 100 lap race begins on Saturday at 1030 a.m. with qualifying starting at 12:20 p.m. Racing action gets underway at 12 noon on Sunday.

Schendel is also entered to race in the Dick Trickle 99 on Friday nite. This is a race run in three segments of thirty three laps each. Qualifying for this race begins at 2 p.m. on Friday and racing starts at 5 p.m.
