From the Chris Wimmer Pits... Wimmer Earns Another Top Ten
Prepares for return to Elko
Wausau, WI September 24th, 2009- Fresh off a top-ten finish at Norway Speedway Chris Wimmer looks to keep his successful season going. “It’s been a really good year so far,” says Wimmer, who has six topfives and eight top-tens so far in 2009, “I hope we can finish the season strong and maybe even bring home another win.”
Wimmer, who qualified 2nd in Norway, MI, began the race from the tenth position and worked his way up to 7th by the time the 100 laps were completed. “Norway is a tough track to pass at,” says Wimmer, “I got a little tight during the race, but I thought I had a pretty good car. You get in line with guys running nose to tail and it’s hard to make a move. The outside line really doesn’t go and it was tough to get under guys coming out of the corner.”
Now Wimmer is all set for a return trip to Elko Speedway in Minnesota. Wimmer took home a 9th place finish at Elko when the ASA Midwest Tour races there back in May, this weekend, he looks for more. “I’ve had some decent runs at Elko over the past two years,” says Wimmer, “But I’d really like to break in to the top-five, that’s something I haven’t been able to do there. You have so many guy on the Tour that raced at Elko on a weekly basis and their local guys are so good it’s tough to get towards the front, but maybe this will be the week.”
A good run at Elko would also help Wimmer hold steady in the top-three in ASAMT points. He’s currently third in Tour points, 137 back from the leader, but 57 points in front of fourth place. “It would be nice to widen that gap a little, says Wimmer, “I think Steve Carlson, in second, is the only guy with a shot to catch the leader, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to catch Steve, but I’m gonna try. Either way to finish in the topthree in points in this series would be a big accomplishment.”
Qualifying for the Race for the Gold125 at Elko starts at 4 p.m. with racing set to start at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
