IVERSON BECOMES FIFTH DIFFERENT ASA MIDWEST TOUR WINNER

Friday, June 22, 2007 (Norway, MI) - The largest crowd in Norway Speedway history watched local hero and ASA Midwest Touring Star Jamie Iverson take home the victory in the Norway 100 over a hard charging Donny Reuvers.

With people overflowing into the aisles and packing the pits, it was standing room only as the Kwik Trip ASA Midwest Tour invaded Norway Speedway. The swelling grandstand gave the command to fire up the engines; the field of 26 came to life with Steve Carlson and Fran Prestay leading the field to the green flag. Prestay grabbed the early advantage with Carlson tucked right behind him in second.

The first caution flew on lap 6, when point leader Kenny Richards’ day went sour as the recent ASAMT Dells winner’s engine blew going down the backstretch.

As the green flew again, local favorites Jamie Iverson and Kris Kelly diced their way threw the field as they moved into 3rd and 4th.

With Iverson’s big red machine in Carlson’s mirror, Carlson decided it was time to jump past Prestay to take the lead.

After a brief caution, Carlson had Iverson breathing down his neck. Banging fenders and racing door to door with a NASCAR Autozone Elite Division/ARTGO Legend, Iverson stormed in front claiming the lead on lap 24.

Kris Kelly followed Iverson past Carlson into the second position as the two would then check out from the rest of the field.

Iverson and Kelly ran one and two for the next thirty-seven laps until Donny Reuvers joined the party by chasing Kelly down on lap 63 and setting his sights on Iverson.

As Iverson sliced and diced his way threw the lapped traffic, Reuvers was nipping at his bumper just waiting for him to slip. With the laps winding down, Reuvers could just reach Iverson’s back bumper, as Iverson drove his heart out, maneuvering the lapped traffic and holding off Reuvers earning his first ASA Midwest Tour victory.

After the Race, Iverson was celebrating in victory Lane and could only utter the words “WOW.” He was just speechless and caught in the moment of his impressive victory. “I owe it to the crew,” he said. “Thanks to Travis Sauter, big thanks to Mike Reichenberger, and I owe this victory to all that have helped us, I can’t thank them enough.” (Iverson suffered mechanical woes early in the evening with a broken rear end and Touring Star Competitor Travis Sauter supplied him with the parts to continue.)

Reuvers came home second with Dave Feiler in third. Kelly fell back to fourth while Josh Vadnais rounded out the top five.

Nathan Haseleu earned fast time honors with a quick time of 14.703 seconds.

Rod Wheeler and Bob Menor won the qualifier heats. While Doug Mahlik and Kris Kelly won the Fast Heats.

“We were very pleased with the competitor turn out at Norway as we surpassed our goal (33) and I can’t thank everyone enough that made the haul for supporting the event. I am still speechless about the fans that attended; I haven’t seen anything like that years. It all goes back to the fans determination to see a quality show with true super late model racing,” stated series President Tim Olson.

The ASA Midwest Tour and its Touring Stars will make their next appearance on Tuesday, July 3rd at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway for the Summer Shootout.

Joining the Touring Stars will be former NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion and recent Milwaukee Mile second place finisher, Ron Hornaday. Also NASCAR Nextel Cup competitor and Necedah native Johnny Sauter, and former NASCAR Busch Series Champion Steve Grissom will be competing.
