KREYER HOLDS OFF HOLZHAUSEN FOR HIS FIRST ASAMT WIN AT DELLS RACEWAY PARK

WISCONSIN DELLS, WI (Saturday, July 18, 2009) - Frank Kreyer has ran many laps around Dells Raceway Park, an ASA Member Track, and tonight he picks up the biggest win in his career as he wins the Race for the Gold - Silver Race. Kreyer held off a late charge from Steve Holzhausen for his first win with Mark Eswein in third.

The story of the race was how Kreyer held off the multiple attempts from Steve Carlson throughout the 125-lap feature event. It was a battle that had a strong crowd standing throughout the final ten laps.

Kreyer, who started third, took the lead from polesitter Dan Lensing on lap 8 with Carlson, who started fifth, right behind them. Throughout the race Carlson would get into the back bumper and try to loosen Kreyer and take advantage of the precious inside line around the third-mile oval.

“I kept saying to myself to rest my head on the right headrest and stay calm,” Kreyer stated when asked how he was able to fend off the challenges from Carlson. “My spotter would tell me I would have him cleared by a car length. I knew I had him coming off and I knew he had us in the middle, but sometimes slowing the thing down in the center just to keep it on the bottom gets you better off because this track has a lot of bite on the bottom groove if you can keep it down there, but he was getting in my back end and I knew I better pick it up a notch.”

Carlson’s best shot came with seven laps to go when Kreyer was trying to work his way around the lap car of Tim Schendel. Kreyer went on the outside of Schendel and as he went, Schendel thought he was going to go low and went up to the high groove sending Kreyer up to the third groove. This allowed Carlson to sneak underneath Schendel. But Kreyer put the gas pedal to the floor and was able to hold on to the top spot.

The second race caution flew with four laps to go when Jacob Goede spun out of turn two. On the re-start, Carlson got hit from behind by Chris Wimmer causing him to spin and causing his right rear tire to go down. He would go to the pits for a new tire and Wimmer was sent to the rear. This allowed Steve Holzhausen, who was running fourth to move into the second spot.

Holzhausen would stay close to Kreyer over the last four laps but could never got the opportunity to get by Kreyer allowing the Pardeeville, WI driver to get his first win.

“I have raced with Steve for a long time and the guy has beaten me every single time I have raced against them,” Kreyer said after the race. “But I will tell you what, I never had a guy like Carlson rough me up, he gives me a lot of respect and I like them guys. They were in my bumper and they would do what they had to do. I was cool with what he was doing and he was letting me know he was there.”

Holzhausen, who was also looking for his first ASAMT win, came up short again, “I was faster but I couldn’t work the outside,” he stated after the race. When asked about looking for that first win all he had to say was, “That would be nice.”

Mark Eswein started sixth and came home with a third place finish, “It was too bad that those guys had to tangle up front so we could get a podium finish,” Eswein stated. “The car was pretty good, not as good as we wanted it to be. But we are excited with a decent finish here in the ASA Midwest Tour after so many good runs, and we put on a good show for the fans here tonight.”

Nathan Haseleu, who started 18th, increased his points lead with a fourth place run with Travis Sauter rounding out the top-five. Haseleu has an 86-point lead over Carlson.

Blake Brown was sixth with Dan Lensing in seventh. Dan Fredrickson came home eighth with Jeff Kendall in ninth. Jeff Storm rounded out the top-ten. Carlson finished 17th.

Kendall also set a fast time of 13.455 seconds.
